Offered is a pair of French mother-of-pearl and brass opera glasses in their admittedly very tattered original case of leather and silk. We are including the case because they came to us this way and because the beautifully working clasp on it is quite decorative and perhaps may be of use to the new owner. The glasses themselves are in very good used condition with no loss to the mother-of-pearl or other damage. The case measures 4 1/2” X 2”closed and 2 1/2” T at the top and 4” X 1 3/8” at the bottom. The glasses measure 3 3/4” wide X 1 1/4” diameter at the bottom and 1” in diameter across the eyepiece and 2” tall closed, 2 3/4” tall when extended fully. They are marked on the eyepieces “Verdi Fi, Paris” indicating Verdi & Sons. These glasses and case date from the late 19th to early 20th century. As you can see we have included a closeup photo of the case clasp which is quite decorative and could perhaps be repurposed. There is no visible damage to the glass sections of the piece and they seem to operate for viewing.
