Just in from a Virginia estate sale is this art glass paperweight in the form of a whimsical fish. The center section is made of black and white and some very pale blue flecks of glass in a striated pattern which was then cased in heavy clear glass. He has indented eyes and a slightly open sculpted mouth as well as a short, ridged tail. The paperweight measures 5" from nose to tail, 2 7/8" at its tallest point while its width varies from 2" at its widest point to 1/8" wide in the tail and 1 1/4" in width across the top of his back. The polished pontil bottom measures approximately 2 1/2" by 1 1/2". There is no maker's mark or signature on the pontil and we do not know where it was made, but his darling appearance would be a great addition to any paperweight collection. He could perhaps take up residence in a fish tank! The condition is very good with just a couple of small scratches on the pontil which is to be expected from a vintage piece. Otherwise he is quite blemish free. Enjoy!
