Highly Collectible Vintage Brass Ship's Bell - image 1 of 6

Here is a gorgeous vintage ship's bell with a lot of beautiful character.

A ship's bell is typically made of bronze, though this beauty is made of shimmering brass.

It has fantastic substance and size. The clapper is made of black-painted cast-iron, which gives the bell a big, boisterous ring.

The bell on a ship is a critically important instrument for time-keeping.

It often falls to the cook to polish the ship's bell regularly and to strike it every hour on the hour.

This is how sailors would assure that their duty watches were properly regulated.

Both the handle and bell are rendered in heavy brass, though they each exhibit a slightly different finish.

The handle shows a brilliant light-gold color while the bell is characterized by a slightly darker, oxidized finish.

The top of the shoulder shows a small spot of light corrosion, while the bell and handle are covered with some minor oxidization. There is also a new hook that was added to hold the original cast-iron clapper.

Overall, the bell remains in great vintage condition.

This would make a really charming ornament to any vintage-inspired décor or collection.

Total height is 9 1/2", Handle is 5 3/4" tall and 1 5/8" wide at base, Bell is 3 3/4" tall, Rim of bell is 5 5/8" in diameter
Weight: 101 grams (35.5 oz)
