Here is a lovely vintage hat from one of Seattle's most renowned and beloved milliners, Ethel Young.
It was said that wearing an Ethel Young hat was the end-all, be-all of fashion-forward style.
Her unique designs are as collectible today as they were a must-have for the fashionistas of the 1950s.
This gorgeous little hat has a lovely, demure style paired with luxe fabrics.
The crown of the hat is made of divine black velvet while the wide, stiff brim is covered in soft black cotton on top and lined around the edge with a narrow ribbon of elegant black grosgrain.
An enormous black grosgrain square-bow decorates the back of the crown and culminates in two short trailing ribbons that fall elegantly over the brim.
The underside of the brim is covered with another layer of deluxe black velvet.
Inside, you will find that the interior of the crown is lined with fabulous metallic-bronze sateen. It's an incredible flash of color in a sea of dramatic black.
Another ribbon of black grosgrain lines the inner-band; this is where you will find the original designer's label which reads "Designed by Ethel Young, Seattle".
Two plastic faux tortoise-shell combs are attached to each side of the grosgrain ribbon inside. These help the hat stay perfectly in place.
Though the hat shows some minor wear and a few extremely light marks on the velvet, it remains in fantastic vintage condition overall.
