Barbie is the end all be all doll, which is why she has been an American icon for over half a century. Created by Mattel in 1959, Barbie has been a symbol of fashion and style for girls ever since. With her robust lips, and perfectly manicured nails, Barbie broke the mold for what a doll could be. No longer was a doll simply a baby to play around with, now they were classy and elegant ladies, someone to aspire to. So while the old timey baby dolls still held some popularity, the fashion queen Barbie was now center stage.
This is a 1961 Barbie with parted bubble cut white ginger hair. She has turquoise eyes with teal eyeliner, both in excellent condition. Her bubblegum pink lips look gorgeous, but do have a small mar on them. The red nail polish on her hands and feet are in excellent condition, with only some minor wear at the tips of the toes on her left foot. Even her ears are free from verdigris.
She is wearing the Vintage Barbie Evening Splendor outfit #961 (1959-1964). The golden girl dress is in excellent condition, which is mirrored by the excellent condition of the gold and white brocade coat. The button on the aqua corduroy purse has come a bit loose, but the little white hankie still remains safely tucked away, and in fantastic condition! The pearl earrings have been replaced with plastic stud replicas, but her pearl necklace is original, and in condition commiserates with its age. The brown, faux fur hat is in great condition, though the pearls may have been restrung. The short white gloves are still a bright white, and the brown, open toe heels exhibit only minor wear. She may be over 50 years old, but she is hardly showing her age!
