This incredible vintage skirt dates from the 1940's and is an absolutely stunning example of masterful craftsmanship paired with daring design.
It truly is a one-of-a-kind.
Custom sewn from heavy knit fabric, the skirt hits the ankle just above the floor.
The heaviness of the fabric and the A-line design give the skirt a fabulous weight, allowing it hang perfectly.
Vertical stripes of dramatic black felted wool adorn the full length of the skirt and culminate at a band of black and red around the hem.
The red stripe, also made of high-quality wool, is framed on the top and bottom by woven ribbons of shimmering metallic gold.
It is the ENORMOUS animal figures near the hem that really grab the eye.
Each panther-like animal is cut-out from dense, high-quality wool and accented with tight border-stitches in metallic gold.
The cats are pictured in facing-profile, creating a mirror image of one another.
Each visible eye is accented with a flat-black rhinestone in vibrant ruby-red.
The skirt remains unlined and features a seven-inch hidden zipper with two small hook-and-eye closures at the back of the waist.
Finally, a matching winter-white belt is included with the skirt.
It has a nice, simple look with a round, fabric-covered buckle in the front.
Though it's the perfect complement, the belt won't detract from the fantastic details of the skirt.
We simply cannot stop admiring this one-of-a-kind skirt; feeling its sensational weight and running our fingers over each masterfully-placed stitch.
As wearable as it is collectible, the discerning collector will NOT be able to pass this beauty by.
