This extraordinary antique scent bottle boasts masterful craftsmanship and an absolutely breathtakingly elegant design.
The sterling silver casing houses a dramatic cranberry glass bottle inside.
The red glass shows through the delicate pierced design around the sterling exterior.
This pierced design resembles the lattice of a window, and allows the perfect amount of red glass to peek provocatively through.
As you can see, the sterling housing opens at the top on a wide hinge to reveal a lovely gilt interior.
Here you will also find the original glass stopper.
It is very difficult to find antique scent bottles with their original stoppers intact, making this beauty a rare find.
There are several die-stamped maker's marks visible on the sterling casing near the lid.
The first of these marks reads "G.E.W." and stands for "G E Walton & Co Ltd", a renowned British silver manufacturing company. The mark was first registered in 1888.
This is followed by the symbol of the Birmingham Assay Office (an anchor), the lion passant (a symbol indicating the British-make of a sterling silver item) and finally the date mark.
The date mark (a lower-case "h") indicates that the piece was manufactured in 1907.
The "lion passant" and date mark stamps can be seen again on the underside of the lid.
Finally, two more marks are shown on the base of the sterling silver casing, the first of which is the "lion passant".
It is accompanied by another date mark "f". This mark is the symbol for the year 1905, and likely indicates when the order was received, or the year the bottle was designed.
You will also find a hand-etched mark on the bottom of the bottle, which is likely a repair or "maintenance" mark.
Showing only a few extremely minor surface scratches and one very shallow dent on the lid, this gorgeous scent bottle remains in outstanding antique condition.
This beauty is a truly lovely example of the era and will make a wonderful gift for someone special.
And if that special person is YOU, all the better.
