This beautiful and unique vintage Western German lavalier is a spectacular representative of European costume jewelry style from the late 1950's.
This piece is exceptional. The detailing in the enamel all the way up the chain is amazing and makes it a stand-out piece.
As you can see, this necklace features a chain and pendant which are made of lightly patinated brass and accented with colorful enamel and rhinestones.
This necklace is a distinct departure from the simpler, beaded mid-century European jewelry.
While components are cast, they have been assembled in such a way as to reflect deep artistic ingenuity and creativity.
The hand-applied enamel gives the necklace a singular quality, though it remains a fabulous, wearable piece.
You'll love the wonderfully unique qualities of this necklace and you can be sure you won't see anyone wearing the same one.
It is these thoughtfully-designed and styled aesthetic aspects of the necklace that make it a rare and highly collectible piece of vintage jewelry.
The chain features small links with slightly larger ones in between, each of which is decorated with an enamel flower in white and blue.
The freely moving pendant has fantastic substance and texture.
It features a number of applied and soldered filigree elements which give it sensational depth and dimension.
Some areas of the pendant are accented with white and blue enamel while the top and bottom are ornamented with red, green and purple rhinestones.
The center of the bottom-most portion of the pendant features a large golden-colored rhinestone which is surrounded by brilliant white glass pearls.
You can see that the large gold rhinestone seems to float at the center of a three-dimensional 8-pointed star setting.
While some smaller areas of the pendant exhibit a light coat of minimal verdigris, the shades of green are complementary of the surrounding brassy colors.
A goldtone placard on the reverse of the pendant features a stamped mark which reads "Made in Western Germany".
This mark was used after 1949, to delineate items manufactured in the Federal Republic of Germany as opposed to socialist Eastern Germany.
Though the chain and pendant show expected light oxidization and wear, this wonderfully unique necklace remains in good vintage condition overall.
