There is really nothing that compares to the timeless beauty of the Arts and Crafts Movement, and this gorgeous vintage Roycroft crumber tray set is a sensational example of the style.
Both pieces are made from beautifully oxidized, hammered copper and feature the highly sought-after hammered finish.
Roycroft was a reformist community of artists and craftworkers founded in 1895, by Elbert Hubbard.
The community, based in East Aurora, New York, was so influential during the Arts and Crafts Era that the philosophy of the group was often referred to as the Roycroft Movement.
The "crumber", as it is called, is meant for scraping crumbs off the dining room table.
The smaller pieces would have been used to scrape crumbs into the other, larger piece (like a very elegant dust pan).
The larger piece has a flat handle at the top which is embellished with two hand-hammered flowers in the center.
You will find the stamped Roycroft logo on the front of the piece in the curve where the handle meets the tray.
This is a very early mark, dating from circa 1909 to 1920.
The crumber shows some spotting and minimal signs of wear as well as a lovely and coveted patina, and it remains in very good vintage condition.
The smaller piece does not have the same perfectly symmetrical shape of the large but rather, a more stylized sail-shape.
It features the same kind of repoussé-flower decoration near the end.
It does not exhibit any hallmarks, but it most definitely a genuine Roycroft piece.
Like the larger crumber, the smaller one shows some wear and patination including a few dark spots and light surface scratches.
Overall, the set remains in excellent vintage condition.
