This is an elegant and exquisitely crafted antique pocket watch featuring dazzling lapis-blue guilloche enamel and graceful detail.
It has a working mechanical wind and keeps time perfectly. The case, crown, stem and loop are rendered in beautiful .800 silver.
The loop, crown, and frame around the dial feature a dazzling gold vermeil finish.
As you can see, the dial is framed by a wide border of lapis-blue guilloche enamel. The same bewitching blue enamel can be seen on the back of the watch with the added ornamentation of two genuine pearl-encrusted swallows.
Both of the little birds are pictured in-flight and set with five genuine seed pearls. All of the pearls are original and in excellent condition.
The interior of the case-back shows a number of hallmarks stamped into gold-washed .800 silver.
A rectangular cartouche enclosing the number "800" can be seen at the top alongside the Swiss "grouse" mark.
This mark depicts a running grouse inside a coffin-shaped lozenge and denotes the 80% silver content of the metal.
This is followed by a case-maker's mark reading "K&L" and a national mark reading "Swiss".
These frame a larger mark in the center of the case-back which depicts a crescent moon and crown.
This is a German silver mark, likely used by a German case decorator.
The words "Argent Dore" (French for "Silver Gilt") appear below the crescent and crown mark and slightly above the final mark, "2317" (likely a style number).
The watch has been professionally tested to ensure the purity of the silver.
You will find the grouse mark twice more: once on the silver frame around the mechanism and on the stem.
This mark is typically referred to as the "smaller grouse mark" and was used to indicate silver-fineness from 1882 to 1934.
The dial features a bright, white face with stylish, hand-painted black Arabic numerals.
The minutes are dotted with tiny gold-tone dots, with a diamond-shape every five minutes.
The metals show some minor oxidization as well as a few very minor surface scratches.
The enamel on the reverse exhibits some surface scratches while the front enamel shows a small chip near 2 o'clock.
Overall, this elegant ladies' pocket watch remains in very good antique condition.
