This is an absolutely breathtaking antique belt buckle embellished with dazzling champlevé enamel.
It is characterized by a distinctly Art Nouveau motif and stands as a picture-perfect example of the style.
This gorgeous belt buckle includes two mirror-image sides that join with a simple hook and loop clasp.
In addition to being decorated with mesmerizing enamel, they feature absolutely voluptuous curvature.
Champlevé is a centuries-old technique where reservoirs or "cells" are made in a pattern and then filled with vitreous enamel.
You will notice that each distinct color is surrounded by a retaining edge or "wall". Each of these "walls" is made all the more lovely by a delicate millegraine. This also creates a luscious texture.
Foliate scrolls and tear drop shapes create a fascinating pattern on each side of the belt buckle.
Vibrant shades of teal-blue and lime-green are complemented beautifully by stark white and dazzling gold-tones.
As the buckle is made of brass it exhibits some areas of dark oxidization on the reverse.
There is a bit of wear on the face of both sides as well as a few tiny areas of enamel-loss but, overall, the buckle remains in very good antique condition.
