We are thrilled to present this gorgeous and collectable olive spoon.

From the inimitable Whiting Manufacturing Company, the elegant, long spoon is rendered in lustrous sterling silver and features the most dazzling green and white enameling on the handle.

Whiting Silver can trace its roots as far back as 1840, with the Tifft and Whiting Firm in North Attleboro, Massachusetts.

After several years of partnership changes, the firm was finally incorporated as the Whiting Manufacturing Company in 1866. They would become a major producer of fine sterling flatware and holloware.

Our beautiful antique spoon features a distinctly Art Nouveau design with graceful foliate scrolling and a long, blank cartouche at the center.

This classic pattern, called "Josephine" was patented 1896 and very rarely featured the bewitching enamel that gives this piece its unique beauty.

Kelly green and bright white enamel has been masterfully applied to very specific areas of the pattern, making it the perfect complement to the exposed sterling silver.

The bowl of the long spoon is slatted. This allowed olives to be scooped out of a jar without collecting too much liquid; thus garnering the nickname "olive spoons".

Even the edge of the bowl is stamped with an alluring foliate pattern.

Though it's slightly faded, the glittering gold vermeil finish can still be seen over the sterling silver.

Aside from being just plain beautiful, a gold wash often prevented a piece of sterling tableware from acquiring any undue oxidization.

There are several maker's marks on the reverse of the handle near the bowl. The first mark is hand-etched and reads "VOT"; this was probably a maker's reference mark.

This is followed by the number "21" (likely the style or pattern number) and by the patent date "Pat'D.Nov.17.96".

The Whiting hallmark (a "W" in a small, winged circle) can be seen very faintly near the patent date. The final mark reads "Sterling" and is very faded.

The spoon has been professionally tested to ensure the purity of the silver.

There are some small, discolored marks on the back of the handle and a light patina throughout. Overall, this extraordinary spoon remains in outstanding antique condition.
