Here is a stunning serving set by world-renowned Danish silversmith Georg Jensen.
After failing at a career in ceramics as a young man, Jensen started his first small silversmithy in 1904, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
It would not be long after that his extraordinary Art Nouveau creations would attract the interest of discerning collector's the world over.
The set includes a knife and serving fork rendered in the classic "Acorn" pattern which dates from 1915.
The pattern is characterized by a bold and elegant motif of symmetrical scroll-work framing a heavily-carved acorn at the top.
Below the acorn-motif at the top, the handle features a lightly scalloped design with a row of flat circles near the bolster.
The handles are sterling silver, while the fork end is made from ebony wood and the knife blade is stainless steel.
This is where you will find marks reading "Sterling" and "Denmark" on both pieces. The fork features an additional stamp reading "Georg Jensen" on the opposite side of the bolster.
As you can see, the fork's upper handle, bowl and tines are made of exquisite ebony wood.
The wood exhibits some light wear on the front and a few deep chips on the reverse, but it remains in fair condition as the issues are purely cosmetic.
The blade of the knife is made of brilliant stainless steel and exhibits a stamped, circular make near the base that reads "Frank CO59 Sheffield England". Another mark on the opposite side reads "Stainless Steel".
Though the blade exhibits some minor surface-scratching it remains in very good condition.
Several areas of the sterling silver shows some minor darkening, but we are thrilled to say that the set is in excellent vintage condition overall.
Jensen pieces (especially such recognizable and substantial ones) are truly the holy-grail for serious silver collectors. This two-piece set is sure to be the gem of your collection.
