Thank you for shopping at Easterbelle's Emporium!
We are thrilled to offer this spectacular vintage McClelland Barclay bracelet made of lustrous sterling silver.
It is characterized by pretty grape clusters and leaves (a favorite McClelland Barclay motif).
McClelland Barclay jewelry is extremely rare and the experts say, if you can find it, buy it at any price.
McClelland Barclay was both an illustrator and a designer.
Born in 1891, he painted and made sculptural utilitarian pieces and decorative objects for the home, as well as wonderful jewelry.
His design sense was magnificent, and his rhinestone jewelry is well known and aggressively collected.
His Arts and Crafts passion influenced his sterling jewelry pieces are which beautifully made and hard to find.
A noted artist and illustrator, he expanded into jewelry design in the late 1930's. By 1938, he was active in the Navy and in 1942, his submarine was torpedoed and he was reported missing.
This wonderful bracelet features seven panels attached with small silver rings on each side.
The rounder panels exhibit a grape cluster and leaves surrounded by an open circle while the alternating link depict a single, graceful grape leaf.
Each panel is rendered in fabulous detail. The bracelet has acquired the lightest patina over the year which adds a sense of great depth and dimension. The bracelet joins with a wide hook and loop clasp.
The reverse of one of the larger panels is stamped "McClelland Barclay" and "Sterling Silver".
Despite some extremely light patination and a few minor surface scratches this bracelet remains in outstanding vintage condition.
Fred Rezazadeh's very useful 1998 primer, COSTUME JEWELRY: A PRACTICAL HANDBOOK & VALUE GUIDE states:
"If you ever come across a piece of jewelry marked McClelland Barclay, buy it without hesitation, for if you don't, you may never see it again. Barclay jewelry is not only extremely rare, but also among the very best costume jewelry ever made in America."
Measurements:
7 ½" long, 7/8" wide, Approx. 2mm-3mm thick
Weight: 31.9 grams (1.13 oz)
