Here is a beautiful hand-carved cane or walking stick. It's a great example of American folk art and features a wonderfully carved bulldog-head at the handle.
The bulldog is carved in nice detail, and even has inset amber-colored glass eyes. His ears flop backward, giving him a rather mischievous look.
Though renowned for their classic "sourpuss" face, bulldogs are generally some of the sweetest and ready-to-please pups!
As you can see, the wood has oxidized heavily over the years, turning its original honey color into a dark umber. This mottled color combined with the general wear really gives it a really nice vintage look.
Well preserved grain and even the odd wood knot really demonstrate the mastery of the craftsman and lend it that warm folk art appeal.
Despite some expected cosmetic wear, the cane remains quite sturdy condition and is completely usable. It's also sure to make a great display piece.
