This is a gorgeous antique page turner.
The piece is made from a single, rigid piece of bone (bovine) and features the most extraordinary sterling silver ornamentation at the top.
Victorian era books were rare and expensive and page turners were used so the pages wouldn't tear and there would be no finger prints or oils left on the pages.
Highly dimensional foliate scrolling glides down the bone on both sides and fits perfectly over the curving end.
In addition to being perfectly cast, the silver features some areas of etched detail, giving it great depth.
The silver has achieved a nice, rich patina over the years. We wouldn't dare to polish it, but leave that to the preferences of the buyer.
There are several small chips at the end of the bone, though the piece remains in very good antique condition overall.
Items like this antique page turner speak to an era when even the most commonplace of objects were beautiful.
