Covering the head in church is a centuries old tradition, but it wasn't until Jack McConnell that "church hats" got really fabulous.
Women demanded the most unique and high-quality hats, so Jack McConnell established himself in New York City and swiftly became one of the country's leading milliner catering to a discriminating clientele. He was aptly named the "King of Millinery".
Original creations like this one are always marked with a red feather tucked under the silken McConnell label.
The exclusivity and peerless quality and beauty of these one-of-a-kind hats has made them incredibly desirable and collectible.
We can't get over this vintage hat; it's so adorable while still being so over-the-top! As you can see, almost the entire exterior of the hat is covered in mint-green feathers.
The top of the brim is covered in a complementary Kelly-green mohair while a bright green accent feather on the left side adds just the right touch.
The hat is lined with an iridescent gold knit. The interior band is embellished with a ribbon of brilliant gold lamé covered with a layer of white lace ribbon.
This is definitely a Jack McConnell signature.
The white tag affixed to the ribbon which reads "Styled by Jack McConnell New York" is enormous.
You will find the single red feather attached to the obverse corner of the tag; this is a Jack McConnell trademark for his one-of-a-kind custom creations. There is also a small AB rhinestone attached to this same corner of the tag.
With only a bit of wear, this spectacular hat remains in fantastic vintage condition.
McConnell's are investment pieces that give any collection an air of elegance, drama, and fun!
