Too adorable! This darling item is a vintage mother-of-pearl teething ring with an inscribed sterling rattle from the Webster Silver Company.
Items like this were given as keepsakes after a birth; this one belonged to Beverly Joy McConnell.
Her name is inscribed on the back while the front boasts the stamped image of a clock, along with the "Month", "Year" and the words "Birth Record" at the top. These rattles would have been purchased as such, and the details were inscribed later.
Little Beverly Joy McConnell would be 80 years old this year!
As you can see, the hands of the clock are set at 12:35, the time of the baby's birth (a tiny "A.M." is etched underneath). Under the word "Month" "March 10th" has been inscribed along with "1931" under "Year". A really cute "belt" bale holds the rattle to the teething ring.
The George K. Webster Silver Company was founded in Attleboro, Massachusetts in 1869 and produced beautiful keepsake silver baby items.
Though the silver has accumulated a rich patina and the teething ring shows a small chip this sweet little rattle and teething ring are in otherwise good vintage condition.
