We’re thrilled to present this extraordinary vintage brooch from renowned Norwegian silversmith, Finn Jensen. It is a beautiful representation of both stylish design and Norwegian tradition.
Solje is the national style of Norway, characterized by lacy filigree in sterling silver. As you can see, this traditional wedding brooch, featuring the heart and “wedding crown”, exhibits masterful filigree in the moving heart charms that dangle from the central heart.
There are tiny, elongated discs hanging from each heart; Norwegian artisans call these spoons because of their shape.
Each spoon catches the light, making the brooch sparkle in the sun; they were also believed to ward off illness and bad luck.
There is a small placard on the reverse of the brooch exhibiting several maker’s marks; the first of these reads “925S” followed by the Jensen hallmark (the initials “F” and “J” in an upside down triangle).
The word “Norway” is stamped next to this in capital letters. A “c”-clasp on the back allows for comfortable wear and easy displaying.
Unique to Solje sterling, it is deliberate that there is deep patination. Polishing Solje sterling will ruin its value.
It remains in excellent vintage condition and will make an elegant and romantic addition to your collection!
