This stunning antique E.A. Bliss necklace is a highly collectible and remarkably beautiful example of the company's lasting influence.
Early E.A. Bliss jewelry has become increasingly difficult to find and is extremely collectible.
The early beginnings of what became the current Napier Company, Bliss and Carpenter started in 1875, when E.A. Bliss and J.E. Carpenter acquired the Whitney and White Company.
You will find the Bliss "Honey Bee" hallmark stamped on the reverse of the pendant.
This particular mark was used from the 1890s until approximately 1917.
This exquisite necklace boasts a sensuous design informed by early Art Deco motifs and late Art Nouveau sensibilities.
As you can see, the pendant is characterized by a highly symmetrical.
The stark, linear motif is interrupted by a sparkling golden glass gemstone at the center.
The piece is beautifully faceted, catching the light from every angle.
Another faceted glass stone in a slightly darker shade of amber hangs at the bottom of a straight narrow bar which dangles from the center of the main pendant.
The juxtaposition of feminine yellow stones with highly linear metals makes for an exquisitely unique design.
The top left and right sides of the pendant features small loops to which a single, textural chain is attached at two points. The chain does not feature a clasp but can be easily pulled on over the head.
This is in keeping with the early 20th-century style of languid, long necklaces.
Both pendant and chain have been professionally tested.
The chain has been determined to be sterling silver while it is likely that the pendant is German (nickel) silver.
E.A. Bliss gained popularity for their exceptional use of both gold vermeil and German silver.
You will notice that the hallmark is only very slightly inconsistent in depth and the pendant and chain show a bit of expected darkening.
We have not polished the piece but leave that to the preference of the buyer.
As wearable as it is collectible, this unusual necklace is sure to be a treasure in your collection.
