This incredible antique ring is the absolute picture of opulence, cast in dazzling 14 karat yellow gold and with the most amazing, enormous carved intaglio bloodstone.
The art of gem-carving has roots in Ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, Assyria and Rome; the word intaglio comes from the Italian "tagliare", which means literally, "to cut".
The stone is set within a substantial bezel setting which is held to the band with two golden arms on each upper shank.
It features the masterfully carved profile of a Roman solider complete with an olive laurel and chiseled features (no pun intended).
Rich forest green complements the bright red flecks that occur naturally within bloodstone.
In ancient times, blood stone was used for medicinal purposes.
It was believed to cure wounds and help stop loss of blood, promote general and functional health. It was also worn to guard the wearer against deception, foul play, and any unexpected hazardous events.
There is a single hallmark stamped on the interior of the band which reads "14K"; to assure its quality. We tested the gold positive for 14K also.
In excellent condition with only minor wear, this weighty and substantial ring just exudes an air of opulence with a touch of regality.
