This is a beautiful and unique letter opener dating from the Victorian era. The opener is one solid piece of bone and features one smooth side and one rounded, pointed side.
A dazzling, hand carved sterling letter "G" is attached to the bone via tiny little rivets. The font is in very Old English lettering. This detailing would have made this letter opener a cherished and personal item.
The typical Victorian writing desk would have contained some standard critical items: one or two inkwells, a stamp box, a pen tray, a desk blotter and, of course, a letter opener.
The page turner (or could be used as a letter opener) exhibits expected minor wear and scratching from years of extended use and the silver placard has expected patina.
We have not polished the "G" so the owner can polish to their preference. Overall, the piece remains in very good antique condition.
Give this letter opener as a thoughtful gift or make it your new favorite collector's item. Measurements: Length: 6 ¼" Width: 5/8"-1/8" Measures 5/16" deep at rounded end Weight: 11.9 grams
