How fabulous is this vintage lorgnette!? Aristocratic ladies didn't just use these as a reading aid, but used them to make a bold fashion statement.
The case is made from gorgeous tortoise shell and takes a glorious, languid shape.
A lovely 14 karat gold placard is applied to the exterior and boasts the most gorgeous hand-etched inscription which reads "EKW" in elaborate script.
A border of delicate flowers encircles the inscription.
When the tiny lever on the side of the handle is pushed downward, out comes a gorgeous set of glasses rimmed in 14 karat gold plate.
The fluted metals within the handle and the loop at the end are also 14 karat gold plate. These elements have all been professionally tested.
Once you're done using your glasses, fold them right up and tuck them back into the case. A number of screws and rivets can be seen on the exterior of the case.
There is some wear to the tortoise shell and some small areas of very minor darkening on the metals.
There is also a small crack in the shell on the reverse, though the piece does not seem structurally compromised.
Overall, this beautiful piece remains in very good vintage condition. They will make a great addition to your unique vintage collection.
