This unusual little hat is a stylish and unique example of the more fun and funky side of 1950s style.
The hat is made of decadent winter-white beaver fur and features a sweet, simple shape with a short rounded crown and upturned brim.
A wide ribbon of matching creamy-white grosgrain wraps around the outer-band and terminates at the back of the hat in a folded dove-tail.
Of course, this hat's collectability is in the details.
As you can see, the front of the hat is accented with a big, bold brooch that features darkened silver-tone medals, a big panel of brilliant faux-jade and an Aztec calendar at the center.
Why an Aztec calendar you ask? Why not? It gives the otherwise demure hat a really funky and unique finishing touch.
Inside, the hat remains unlined as it is typically unnecessary to include a lining in beaver fur hats of such fantastic quality.
A narrow white grosgrain ribbon lines the inner band; this is where you will find a little "Hatter's Union" fabric tag.
Slightly below this you will see the original designer's label which reads "Styled by Janen".
Finally, the manufacturer's mark is imprinted on the underside of the crown and reads "Union Made, UNC & MWIU, Merrimac, Merri-Soie".
While the hat shows only the tiniest amount of age expected wear, it remains in outstanding vintage condition overall.
