Ladies Antique 14K Rose Gold Over Sterling Pocket Watch Guilloche Enameling and Fleur de Lis Detail
This is a really elegant and beautifully accented pocket watch with marvelous detailing.
These antique ladies' watches are becoming harder and harder to find in this kind of intricate detailing and ornamentation.
It has a mechanical wind and keeps time perfectly. The case, stem and crown are 14 karat rose gold-plated sterling silver.
The beautiful color of the rose gold sets off the wonderful blue guilloche enameling on the back of the piece.
The face features classic serifed Arabic numerals and raised golden dots marking the seconds.
The rose gold hands are traditional serpentine and are in excellent condition.
The reverse of the watch features a panel of the most incredible turquoise-blue guilloche enamel embellished with a lovely repeating pattern of painted fleur-de-lis.
There is a light spot on the picture of the enameling that is a reflection of the camera and is not present on the watch back.
There are several maker's marks on the interior of the case-backing.
You can see a stamp inside a rectangular lozenge that reads "0,935"; this is followed by a mark depicting a standing bear.
The next mark reads "Argent Dore". In French, this translates as "gilt silver" and indicates that the watch case contains 14 karat gold-plate over sterling silver. Below this are marks reading "Swiss" and "3569".
Both the enameled area and the watch face are surrounded by beautiful, genuine freshwater seed pearls. Two pearls are missing though these can be replaced by a jewelry professional with great ease.
The sterling bow (ring) is not original to the watch and is clearly a replaced piece. We would suggest the owner invest in a 14 karat gold bow replacement.
A lion hallmark can be clearly seen on the stem. The stem features a stamp which reads "EXD"; this is the typical mark of Aldred and Son.
The company was founded in 1795, and specialized in clocks, watches, and fine jewelry.
An old advertisement shows them as "Aldred & Son, goldsmith, silversmith, watchmaker and Berlin wool repository, Est. 1795."
The crystal is in excellent condition and though the metals exhibit expected minor surface wear commensurate with the watch's age.
This would be perfect hanging from an intricate gold chain around the neck. It is very feminine and elegant.
The watch winds easily and works perfectly.
