This gorgeous antique handbag is an exceptionally unique example of the Victorian cut steel beaded style.
Dating from the late 1800s, this bag is characterized by hundreds of large cut-steel beads that have been beautifully integrated into crocheted taupe colored silk.
We have NEVER seen such large beads on a purse of this kind, making this an incredibly rare find. Each bead measures approximately 5mm wide.
Some of the beads are arranged in dangling loops at the bottom of the handbag, creating a feminine fringe-like accent.
Even the ends of the four draw string cords are accented with hand-stitched steel beads.
The scalloped top of the handbag is also embellished with cut steel beads.
As you can see, the bag closes with a beautiful mossy-green silk drawstring that runs through several loops near the top.
Inside, the bag is lined with divine light-pink silk, almost all of which remain in fantastic condition.
Only one or two of the beads exhibit barely visible areas of rust and minor flea-bite scratches.
Overall, the handbag remains in absolutely remarkable antique condition.
This beauty still has all of its original beads.
You'll love the visual and tactile appeal it adds to your collection.
This is a shop favorite. It is so beautiful, tactile, and has great weight and an air of elegance.
