Here is a beautiful 26" antique toy boat. It is a larger size and a piece that we will never find again.
Hand made Victorian era folk art/toys are very coveted by collectors and this is one of those amazing "finds" that we've experienced only a few times over the years.
Toys of this kind were popular during the Victorian era when parents would make or purchase them for their children.
We can just picture this little boat floating down the Thames with a crew of dollies sitting happily aboard.
As a miniature the detail is astounding. You can see that the boat has been expertly constructed by a knowledgeable craftsman.
All of the brass screws and iron nails (though deeply patinated) remain perfectly secured.
The age appropriate flat head screws with the single slot are evident.
It looks like it is water tight though, of course, we haven't tested it!
The piece can be displayed in a wide variety of settings such as an office, above a fireplace or in a lake cottage.
There may have been oar locks as there are two small holes on the sides between the front and middle seats.
There are three bench seats total (in nautical terms, these are referred to as "thwarts").
It appears to have seen a fair amount of use over the many years, but its excellent craftsmanship has prevented it from sustaining any overt damage.
There are, of course, some areas of wear and darkening which lends itself to its authenticity.
The boat is a general deep honey-brown color.
Overall, it remains in good antique condition.
In our years of searching, we have never found a piece quite like this darling boat.
We know you'll love it as much as we do.
