What could be better than a fine antique cruet-set at the center of your holiday table? This set is a dazzling example with exquisite pressed-glass bottles and lustrous electroplated nickel-silver.
This set includes four individual pressed glass bottles with a gorgeous electroplated stand.
The stand features a tall three-petaled handle with square-shaped frames protruding from the center to keep each bottle securely in place.
There are two decanter style bottles with traditional faceted stoppers.
Next, you will find a bottle with a perforated electroplated lid; this is a sugar-castor for sweetening pastries, teas and coffees.
The last bottle exhibits a flat electroplated lid with a small indentation for a serving spoon.
The electroplated lids each feature a die-stamped mark reading "EPNS" for "electro-plated nickel-silver".
Nickel-silver (sometimes called "German silver") is an alloy that typically contains 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc.
The resulting amalgam is a gorgeous shimmering silver-colored metal.
The alloy gained popularity in the mid 19th century for use in cutlery and silverware.
The bottles feature a beautiful pressed design on all four sides. They are characterized by a traditional and elegant linear design.
There is an embossed mark on the underside of each glass bottle which reads "Rd. No 528.992".
This stands for "Registered Design Number", a system implemented by English craftsman in 1842.
These numbers correspond to August through September, 1908.
The stand also boasts a nickel-silver finish and features several stamped marks on the underside which read "EP NS A, Made in England, 1610". There are four ball feet at each corner of the underside which help prevent any scratching.
You will see some light scratching and oxidization to the stand as well as to the nickel-silver stoppers on the bottles.
Otherwise, this charming cruet set remains in great antique condition.
As collectible and rare as it is beautiful, this set is sure to make a stunning centerpiece.
