This remarkable piece of vintage Chanel features marvelous, uniquely colored faux pearls. The color is a kind of bronze and brass mix, perhaps a burnished gold. The strand is comprised of 14mm faux pearls that cascade toward a large, centerpiece faux pearl which anchors the piece on the wearer.
The ends of the strand boast beautiful hammered metal end-caps. The end-caps are adorned with a classic hook and loop clasp.
There are two matching oblong hallmark placards reading "Chanel 26 Made in France" soldered to the reverse of both of the end-caps. The “26” on the makers mark indicate that this necklace is from Chanel’s 26th season, which began in 1989.
Exhibiting virtually no wear, this necklace remains in excellent vintage condition. It has a very nice weight to it and feels and looks of quality.
Chanel S.A. was founded in early 20th century France by the famous Coco Chanel. As the creator of the “little black dress”, she was at the forefront of fashion, the first designer to significantly take fashion away from embellished, opulent designs of the 19th century and move it toward the simple elegance of early 20th century fashion.
While her clothing designs were known for their sleek look, subtle palate and lean silhouette, her taste in jewelry was theatrical and bold. For Coco it was never just a single strand of pearls but multiple strands of pearls looped lavishly around her neck. In the early 1930s, Chanel launched her first fine jewelry collection.
