Here is an elegant vintage teapot from New York's famous Gotham Hotel.
The Gotham Hotel is steeped in history from an era of the grand hotels of New York.
We love these iconic pieces from the yesteryear of the elegant, iconic hotels where luxury and opulence were reserved for the very elite of the times.
These pieces are hard to find and extremely collectible.
Designed as the best of the best for the "it" class, they withstand the test of time and have contemporary utility.
The picture of neo-classical perfection, the Gotham opened in 1905, and remained a must-stay location for the East Coast's elite until 1979 when it was rebranded as the Nova Hotel.
This substantial little teapot has a lustrous silver soldered finish and features classic, tradition decorative elements.
As you can see, the teapot is footed and features a wide belly and tapers severely to the lid.
A rim of decorative gadrooning wraps around the bottom of the lid and matches the look of the heavy scrolled handle beautifully.
The lid is hinged and features a graceful finial at the top.
You will find a number of maker's marks on the underside of the foot, the first of which reads "Hotel Gotham" in elegant, slanted script.
This is followed by an inscription reading "International Silver Co, Silver Soldered".
Other marks include "SX0611", "1/2", "PI" and "00". These are likely style numbers and manufacturer reference numbers.
The Meriden-based company, International Silver, supplied some of the United States' finest hotels with silver soldered dishware for many years.
Silver solder involves coating a heavy metal object like this one with a highly-reflective silver alloy.
You will notice that the teapot shows some expected wear, though we like the texture and dimension this affords the finish and decoration.
The handle exhibits some material denting while other areas of the piece show little spots and marks.
However, this teapot remains in good vintage condition and will make a fantastic addition to your mad tea party!
