Shortly after opening her New York City millinery in 1923, Lilly Daché would be designing hats and accessories for the likes of Marlene Dietrich and Audrey Hepburn. Lilly had such a devoted following that after her death in 1968 her most faithful follower, the glamorous actress Loretta Young, bought all of her remaining hats.
This extraordinary hat, from the Daché Debs line, is in near-perfect condition (with the original tag, we don't think it was ever worn), and is ready for wear or display. Vivid turquoise and coral ribbons frame panels of creamy white and taupe straw leading to a twirled bow on the crown. White sateen grosgrain lines the interior where the original tag can also be found; it reads "Lilly Daché Debs, New York, Paris".
A strip of gray velvet lines the band allowing for extra comfort during wear. Remarkably, the original paper hangtag included with the hat remains in excellent condition as well.
A wholly exquisite piece, this hat is not to be missed. Let is grace your fabulous collection and always remember, as Ms. Daché said, "Glamour is what makes a man ask for your telephone number, but it also is what makes a woman ask for the name of your dressmaker."
