This gorgeous vintage hat is a fantastic example of Hattie Carnegie's peerless style. It's from the highly collectible "Miss Carnegie" line and comes from the world-renowned Mary Sachs store.
Shopping at Mary Sachs was an experience all its own; instead of wading through endless racks of clothes, customers sat in beautifully decorated private rooms while individually selected garments were brought to them. In the 1920s, Mary Sachs stores in Harrisburg, Lancaster and Reading, Pennsylvania became some of the country's most premier retail locations.
This fantastic hat is gorgeous in it's simple shape and unique construction. The crown is made from wool in a deep shade of gray. Parallel rows of organ pleats decorate the crown, creating a beautiful monochromatic but textural look.
The outer band of the hat is covered in a leather-like vinyl in ebony black. The vinyl continues onto the interior band and is met with a wide ribbon of black grosgrain.
The interior of the hat is lined with a stiff black netting which has allowed the hat to keep its lovely shape.
You will find the original silken hallmark tag affixed to the grosgrain ribbon; it reads "Miss Carnegie by Hattie Carnegie". A tag reading "Mary Sachs Harrisburg-Lancaster" is glued to the top of the larger tag. There is a tiny tag behind the largest one assuring the buyer that the product was "Union Made".
This daring Carnegie cap is in fantastic condition.
It's style withstands every season's trend and is so classic, you can wear this vintage designer piece for years to come.
