This gorgeous vintage handbag is timeless.
Dramatic black patent leather and a classic Kelly-style shape make it a truly classic staple.
Patent leather begins as a superior grade of fine grain leather that undergoes a process to achieve the glossy look.
From the inimitable French leather-goods manufacturer, Birks, the handbag dates from around the late 1950's.
Birks is a very high end, luxury merchandise company in Canada that started in 1870. Their "made in France" handbags can cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
The hidden leather-covered frame opens and closes securely with a simple, gold-tone rocking clasp.
By lifting the stylish bow-shaped bar on the front of the bag the clasp is released. T
This piece is functional while still lending the bag a touch of elegant embellishment.
A stiff leather handle is attached to the frame on each side with a beveled brass bolt. It is really comfortable to carry in-hand or on the elbow (á la Grace Kelly).
Inside, you will find that the interior is lined with supple black leather and features a small zippered pocket perfect for carrying cards, cash or compacts.
There is another non-zippered pocket on the opposite side.
The manufacturer's mark is printed in elegant gold script above the zippered pocket and reads "Birks, Made in France".
While it exhibits a few scuffs and some expected wear (mostly visible in the third picture in the series), this gorgeous handbag remains in very good vintage condition.
This timeless beauty is a must-have for the well-rounded wardrobe.
This is a very high quality handbag with a classic and timeless style. It screams class and elegance.
Besides being a Birks Made in France piece, it is very collectible as well as very versatile.
