We are pleased to present these exquisite antique cast iron bookends.

Cast in extraordinary detail, each bookend depicts a female figure standing in a victorious pose. She stands in front of a monumental lyre and holds the masks of Comedy and Tragedy.

It is likely that the figure is a combined representation of Erato, the muse of lyrical poetry, Melpomene, the muse of Tragedy, and Thalia, the muse of Comedy.

The bookends act as an homage to the significance and divinity of intellect by representing these muses as one. A perfect theme for bookends.

As you can see, both pieces are a dramatic shade of shimmering bronze, though have lost much of their original finish over the years. What remains is an opulent richness and a time-enhanced patina.

The bookends remain in good antique condition and are sure to add lovely color and drama to any collection.
