This gorgeous vintage evening bag is really unique! It features a beautifully embroidered cover that can be turned around for a dramatic all-black look.
As you can see, the both sides of the cover boast a repeating embroidered pattern of shimmering gold leaves with shiny black accents on a black satin background.
The top and bottom of the cover are attached to a gold-tone brass frame with small loops on each side.
These attach to four protruding knobs on the ends of the bag base. It's as easy as taking the cover off, turning it around and reattaching it.
The bag itself is rendered in dramatic black grosgrain. A simple rocking-latch at the top makes it easy to open.
Beautiful black satin lines the interior of the bag.
There is a little pocket on the inside, perfect for cards and cash.
You will find a little gold-tone snake-chain handle that can be taken out or tucked inside the bag depending on your preference.
The original maker's mark is stamped on the outside of the pocket; it reads "L&M Bags by Edward, Made in U.S.A., U.S. Pat # [...]". The numbers following the patent are slightly obscured.
The "L&M" is for Lowy & Mund, a company that manufactured stylish handbags in the 1940's and 50's.
Some of the brass hardware shows the slightly amount of darkening, and only one or two of the golden embroidered "leaves" show some wear.
Otherwise, this dramatic vintage handbag is in fantastic vintage condition and perfect for the wintry season's cocktail parties!
