We are thrilled to present this exceptionally elegant antique electro-plated silver coffee pot from John Round & Sons.
The piece is thoroughly hallmarked and remains in incredible condition.
Established in 1847, the John Round firm started as a tiny workshop attached to the founder's house on Tudor Street in Sheffield, England.
It would not be long before the company would expand to an extremely successful venture.
After forming a partnership with his son Edwin, the firm was renamed John Round & Son.
This coffee pot was manufactured by Joseph Ridge & Co., after JR&S was amalgamated with Ridge, Allcard & Co.
As you can see, this piece is a very attractive height, measuring almost 10 inches tall.
The coffee pot has a wide belly that tapers ever-so-slightly upward toward a lightly scalloped edge around the lid.
It stands on four tapered feet which prevents any scratching to the piece or underlying surfaces.
You will find two ox-bone accents wrapping around the elegant handle, as well as an ox-bone "button" on the top of the lid.
These decorative pieces give the otherwise restrained design of the coffee pot a touch of exoticism and elegance.
There a number of clearly stamped maker's mark on the underside of the coffee pot, the first of which reads "Half 5 Pint".
This mark is followed by a John Round logo reading "All the Round".
The following marks include "JR&S" in respective square shapes, "EPNS", "Warranted Hard Soldered", "32476" and the English Registry number "RDNO 52007".
This numerical registry system was implemented by the English government in 1884; it replaced the previous "diamond code" system that had been used from 1842 to 1883.
The number 52007 indicates that the piece was manufactured between the years 1886 and 1887.
You will notice that this coffee pot shows only a few minor surface scratches and some very light oxidization on the handle and ferrule. Overall, it remains in exceptional antique condition.
