From the always fabulous I. Magnin, we are thrilled to present this gorgeous vintage hat.
The hat takes a dazzlingly unique shape, and is comprised of luxurious deep navy blue felt. Each seam is masterfully joined and embellished by thin rows of tiny top-stitching.
A gorgeous little grosgrain is affixed to the crown, adding a simple amount of decoration. It's the shape of this demure but fashion forward little cap that really makes it sing.
The interior band is lined with a thin grosgrain ribbon; affixed here is the designer's silken tag which reads "I. Magnin & Co. Ranleigh". A small tag with the hat size, "22", is attached underneath the ribbon.
Sadly, I. Magnin is long gone, but this treasure remains.
Their heydays were in the late 1930s to the 1940s. When famed designer Christian Dior paid a visit from Paris, he toured the Union Square (California) store, which had already earned the nickname "White Marble Palace", and said "Magnifique!" The word would later be turned into a high compliment: "Magninique."
The family-owned I. Magnin was sold in 1944, and became buried in mergers and acquisitions, but the original family store was already long gone. The name was finally retired in 1989.
This hat is truly a gorgeous example of I. Magnin's timeless style and remains in excellent condition.
