An exquisite example of the finest English silver, this antique cigarette case will prove as functional as it is decorative.

The hallmarks are the British passant lion for .925 sterling, S&E for the makers, Somers & Eccles

Featuring an elaborate pattern of etched, floral adornment on the lid surrounding the engraved initials "NIM", it bespeaks an era of opulent luxury and lavish accessorizing.

The desirability of this item comes in part from its provenance and personal markings. The underside of the lid features several patently British hallmarks, such as the lion and "U", denoting the time of manufacture as well as a message stating "To Norman from Doreen, 26-10-42".

The date mark is a small case "u" in a square with squared off corners. We see this dating much earlier than 1942, but the hallmark preceding the lion passant for England is so worn, we can't identify the date mark without identifying the assay office.

Affectionate inscriptions like this add a greater sense of history to silver items. In excellent vintage condition, make this beautiful cigarette case a part of your collection.

Measures 2" by 3.15" with a total weight of 62 grams. Nice weighty case.
