Here's the perfect vintage fan to keep you from getting "the vapors" this summer!
This beauty comes to us from Spain; likely the Andalucía region. It is believed that the now widely-popular hand fan was brought to Spain from Chinese and Middle Eastern traders.
The fan became the perfect thing to convey privacy, mystery and allure, in addition to just being a nice way to cool off.
The ribs are made of light weight wood and remain in excellent condition. As you can see, the leaf is painted with a beautiful scene including Spanish roses and a sailboat. The painting continues from the leaf down to the ribs. A loop at the end, or boleta, allows for easy carrying.
The end rib is often called the "thumb-saver". This one is painted green and is painted with the original owner's name "Señora Lineke".
With only a touch of wear, this lovely vintage hand fan remains in excellent condition.
It is big, colorful and beautiful. It makes for a wonderful design element besides being very useful.
