Sinuous lines define this incredible hand hammered copper center bowl by the premier Arts and Crafts coppersmith Dirk Van Erp. Van Erp emigrated to the United States from The Netherlands in 1890 and lived in California where he opened the Art Copper Shop. The shop was awarded gold medals at expositions and World Fairs. Van Erp is widely considered the most important metalsmith of the Arts and Crafts movement and is unrivaled in American metalwork. The unadorned appearance fits in beautifully with modern decor. Signed with open-box windmill San Francisco stamp. 17.25" long x 9.75" wide (at widest point) x 3.3" high (at highest point). Some light scratches as can be seen in the pictures. Good patina consistent with age. Circa 1915-1929.
