Signed lower right. In Whistler type frame. By Jane Peterson, one of the top female post-impressionist painters of the early 20th century. Ms. Peterson rose from humble beginnings in the Midwest, making her way to NYC to attend the Pratt Institute. She led an independent and adventurous life, traveling to London, Paris, Venice and Madrid to study with influential painters, culminating in her approach of combining techniques and styles. She also traveled with Louis Comfort Tiffany on a national painting expedition in his private railway car. Ms. Peterson became famous for a wide range of works, from landscapes to still lifes, blending impressionist and expressionist movements. She exhibited throughout the country. The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, Connecticut developed a wonderful (traveling) exhibition on Jane Peterson in 2018. Dimensions: 9.5” W x 13” H image size; 16.5” W x 20.5” H framed size
