Portrait - Nude in Artist's Studio by Addison Thomas Millar (1860-1913) - image 1 of 6

Eye-catching framed oil on artist's board; full length portrait of a young woman seated in studio with paintings hanging wall to wall in tall ceiling studio. Millar painted a similar work of Mrs. William Merritt Chase in Chase's 10th Street New York studio that exhibited in the Parrish Art Museum Southampton, NY. Mrs. Chase posed in full dress, however. Please note the minor gilt defects in period Victorian frame that we will have touched up before sending out. 9.25" by 5.25," Approximately 13" by 9" framed. Millar was a pupil of landscape painter William M. Chase during 1892 at the Shinnecock School. His paintings and etchings are represented in the Detroit Institute of Arts; Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.; New York Public Library, New York City; and the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence. He was a member of the Salmagundi Club and Silvermine Artists Guild. This painting represents Millar at height of his powers before his career was cut short due to a fatal car accident in 1913.
