Excellent example; circa 1770 high style black walnut Philadelphia Chippendale dining or side chair. With pierced splat and carved shell cupid's bow back rail. Carved ears, shell-carved seat rail, original glue blocks and excellent overall condition including early mellow surface. The graceful cabriole front legs come down to crisply carved ball and claw feet. Mortise through construction. Just purchased from an estate. Reference our other listing of Philadelphia chair in matching fabric. Excellent condition, beautifully reupholstered. Note the depth indicated (18.5") = from back leg to front knee. The seat depth is 17". Seat height: 18"; chair back height: 39".
