This sterling silver puffy heart features a beautiful rendition of one of the insignia used by the United States Navy. Because these charms peaked in popularity in the early 1940s during the height of WW2 and were often given as sweetheart tokens of love and affection, there is a wonderful selection of hearts for every branch of the U.S. military.
The detail is fabulous. It's a very nice quality puffy heart as the base, with a flat top. To this has been applied a detailed eagle perched on a shield with the elements of the United States flag. The top half of the shield has tiny stars, and the bottom half has vertical stripes. The anchors extend beyond the edge of the heart. Very three-dimensional, and perfect for the lover of hearts with American historic or patriotic design. The background under the applied emblem is darkly patinated and in excellent condition.
The back of the heart is marked sterling, and has been professionally engraved with the name 'Mabel' in beautiful script. The heart has a soft patina and with no dings or dents is in excellent vintage condition. Circa 1940s.
Measures approximately 5/8" tall, average puffy heart size.
