WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THIS PIECE Makes a statement at 4 inches wide but easy to wear! Love the design interpretation of a dragon and the hearts along its body.
MATERIAL White metal, brass, cast and silverplated
SIZE Measures 4 inches wide by just over 2 inches tall. It is 2 mm thickness. Weighs 30.3 grams so better suited for heavier fabrics.
MARKS Signed Napier in all caps and a copyright mark in a rectangular cartouche. This piece is from the Dynasty Group collection designed by Eugene Bertolli in the early 1970s. The collection is featured on pp. 464 and 465 of The Napier Co. Book by Melinda L. Lewis.
SYMBOLISM or HISTORY In the Chinese Zodiac, the dragon is the 5th creature, equal to Leo the lion. In Taoist beliefs, the dragon represents the spirit of change. In both China and Japan, the dragon was the symbol for royalty and good fortune. It can be symbolic of power and spirituality, good as well as evil. They are guardians of treasure, especially gold, and keepers of secrets.
CONDITION This piece has been lightly polished as the silverplated finish does tarnish. Roll over safety clasp in working condition. The pin shows wear to the silver finish but this is not visible when worn, this can be seen in the 3rd photo. Excellent, vintage condition.
