AGE 1940s
SYMBOLISM or HISTORY Bigney sterling pieces are rare. There is an S.O. Bigney that was in business from 1896 to 1946 but the description does not mention that they produced sterling silver, only gold and gold filled jewelry. However, a lot of jewelry makers turned to sterling silver during World War 2 because the metals they used to make gold filled and costume jewelry were needed for the war effort. So this may be the case with S.O. Bigney. Of the few sterling silver pieces I've seen signed Bigney, some are very modern in design and ahead of their time, like this necklace, and some are very traditional Victorian Revival that was popular in the 1940s.
CONDITION Softened patina on the silver. No issues to note. The last photo is taken indoors in natural light. Excellent, vintage condition.
