Antique Art Nouveau 14K Yellow Gold Ivy Wedding Ring
Offering a lovely antique Art Nouveau 14K yellow and green gold ivy wedding band ring. The carved ivy pattern is flowing and gives a sense of movement. The natural motif and flowing, curved lines are typical of Art Nouveau era design. MATERIAL 14K yellow gold with very light green gold in the recesses of the ivy pattern for contrast
SIZE Ring is a size 9. It could be resized by a good jeweler. The band is 7.5 mm wide at its widest section on top and tapers to 4 mm on the underside. It has a thickness of 1 mm. Weighs 3.5 grams.
MARKS Hallmarked 14K for gold content and tests as such with jeweler's acid and a test stone. Also has a maker's mark we could not identify.
AGE circa 1900
SYMBOLISM or HISTORY Ivy grows as a strong vine and thus symbolizes a binding that keeps wedded couples together. It stands for fidelity and loyalty and a strong bond of love in marriage and is often seen on antique wedding bands.
CONDITION There is a tiny line groove on the inside of the band, possibly indicating a previous resizing. Softened patina on the gold, giving it that warm glow that comes with old gold. The last photo is taken outdoors in natural light. Excellent, antique condition.
