Antique 14K Gold Turquoise Ring Victorian
Offering an antique 14K yellow gold triple turquoise ring with an ornate gallery and shoulders of beautiful scroll work and beads. Low profile makes this easy to wear and stack with other rings. We love the different shades of the turquoise cabochons, see the Condition section for more details. This ring appears to have been much worn and loved by its previous owner or owners and is so much prettier in person.
MATERIAL 14K yellow gold
GEMSTONE Three turquoise cabochons
SIZE Ring is a size 6.75 on the mandrel. The ring is 6 mm wide at its widest section at the center turquoise. Weighs 2.0 grams.
MARKS Unmarked but tests as at least 14K gold with jeweler’s acid and a test stone.
AGE Late Victorian circa 1890s
SYMBOLISM or HISTORY Turquoise is thought to be protection from the evil eye and prevents falls. It is a stone of purpose, bringing happiness to the wearer, can make friends of enemies and is symbolic of generosity and affection. Turquoise is one of the birthstones for December babies.
CONDITION The darker green turquoise cabochon on one of the ends has a chip that can be seen under loupe magnification as shown in the 2nd to last photo. The stone is secure in its setting and it is not really visible when worn. We believe the brighter blue turquoise on the other end to be a replacement by the fact that the color has not aged like the other two. It is an excellent match. Older, natural turquoise will change color from shades of blues to shades of green from exposure to air, body oils, chemicals, etc. when worn. These differences in colors are desirable by many collectors. Warm patina on the gold. The last photo is taken outdoors in natural light with no filter. Price reflects the chipped stone issue but otherwise, this ring is in excellent, antique condition.
