This diminutive chest, 16 1/2" by 9 1/8" by 8" tall, is made in the form of a small tool chest. The carcass is dovetailed tiger maple trim and a walnut top. There is also an interior pine till on the right hand side.
The walnut top is decorated with an inlaid diamond shaped lozenge in maple. The hinges are brass and the mortise lock remains, with the original key. The escutcheon plate is walnut.
The sides are painted green and the tiger maple trim and walnut top were left natural.
The condition is very good - there are no losses and no repairs. The surface looks to be original. There is a small shrinkage crack in the walnut top.
It is hard to find 19th Century pieces like this in their original, untouched condition.
