This painted box features nailed construction, early "coiled" hinges, a mortise lock, a Federal style bail pull for a handle and matching escutcheon and a fabric covered interior. It measures 10 1/2" long by 4 3/4" deep and 4 1/8" tall.
The paint decoration is stylistic geometric shapes in black and orange on a green background.
This box likely dates to the first half of the 19th Century - 1820-1840.
Condition is good. The surface is original with no overpainting. There is some damage to the back right corner on the top. The latch piece for the lock is missing as is the key. The fabric interior is loose in spots.
